FAQs

  • Our Graduate Interns are advanced students who have completed all their coursework in a Master’s-level counselling program and are in the final stages of earning their designation. These interns bring fresh perspectives, up-to-date training, and a deep commitment to supporting clients on their mental health journey.

To ensure the highest quality of care, all sessions are supervised by a Registered Clinical Counsellor with over 5 years of experience. Supervisors work closely with interns to guide their work and ensure your needs are met with professionalism and care.

  • We aim to make counselling accessible to as many people as possible. Our Graduate Intern sessions are offered on a sliding scale from $25 to $80, based on your financial need and the intern’s practicum stage.

This flexibility makes it easier for you to access the support you deserve without unnecessary financial barriers.

In some situations, we are also able to offer pro bono services. Please inquiry during your consultations. Please note that there are limited spaces for pro bono services and we may not be able to offer that to everyone.

    • Affordable: Lower session fees make counselling accessible for individuals and families on a budget.

    • Quality Care: Interns are closely supervised by experienced Registered Clinical Counsellors to ensure professional and effective support.

    • Advanced Training: Interns are highly trained and ready to apply their skills, bringing a fresh perspective and current knowledge to your sessions.

    • Accessible: Open to anyone residing in British Columbia—no need for extended health coverage to access this service.

  • No, the supervisor is not present during your counselling session.

Our Graduate Interns work independently during sessions, allowing you to build a trusting and comfortable therapeutic relationship. To ensure high-quality care, each intern participates in daily debriefs with their supervisor—a Registered Clinical Counsellor with over 5 years of experience.

    During these debriefs:

    • The intern reviews your session and progress to ensure the treatment plan is on track.

    • The supervisor provides guidance to ensure that your care is appropriate and effective.

    • Any concerns or issues beyond the intern’s scope are flagged, and next steps are planned collaboratively with the supervisor’s expertise.

This structure allows you to benefit from the intern’s fresh training and perspective while having the added assurance of oversight and support from an experienced clinical professional.

  • Our Graduate Interns provide counselling for a wide range of concerns, including:

    • Anxiety and depression

    • Stress and burnout

    • Relationship challenges

    • Boundaries

    • Grief and loss

    • Anger

    • Life transitions

    • Among others

Please note that not all areas of concern will be within an interns scope of practice and therefore may require a referral to a RCC specializing in that area. Some areas may include:

    • Disordered eating/Eating disorders

    • PTSD/CPTSD

    • Abuse/violence

Please note this is not an exhaustive list.

Meet Our Graduate Intern Therapists

All of our Graduate Therapists have completed their Master’s degree coursework and are being supervised by a practicing therapist with a minimum of five years of practice. This is the final piece for them before being fully registered!

Natalie (she/her)

Hello!

My name is Natalie Kumpula (she/her/hers), and I am currently completing my Master’s in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. I completed a Bachelor’s of Science at Simon Fraser University, and I like to think that my background in science helps me consider physiological, social, and emotional factors equally in counselling. Alongside education, my experiences working at local crisis lines, outreach programs, and employment services have allowed me to deeply connect with many others from a variety of backgrounds facing challenging situations.

My personal approach to counselling is very client-centered, with your needs and perspectives coming first. I have been trained in trauma-informed practices and crisis intervention, and I honour differences in culture or worldview that may be present between myself and my clients. I enjoy using techniques from solution-focused, cognitive-behavioural, and strengths-based therapies, while acknowledging that every person’s journey to health will be unique. I hope that you’ll consider me in your search for a counsellor and know that you are not starting this journey alone.

  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Person-centred, Strengths-based, Solution-Focused (SFT)

  • Sundays 10:00-2:00pm
