DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) Skills Group

The Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Skills group is a 12-week program focused on teaching you the skills needed to build the life that you want in a supportive environment.

Build the life that you want in a supportive environment.

In this course, you will learn…

New skills each week with the support of facilitators and group members. Skills to better manage areas such as emotional regulation, mindfulness, interpersonal skills, and distress tolerance plus so much more! There will be homework given after each session to help you integrate these tools into your everyday life. If you are unable to incorporate the tools, you work with the facilitators to identify what got in the way so that you are more likely to be able to do your homework for the next session. Sessions are 2 hours & 15 minutes each.

There will be 2 different groups running this fall

  • Interpersonal Effectiveness

Learn how to ask for what you want or say no, while keeping a good relationship, and maintaining your self-respect.

  • Distress Tolerance

Learn how to get through a crisis without making matters worse. If you can’t fix the problem right now- it can be important to find ways of riding out painful feelings until they pass.

  • Mindfulness

Do you find yourself getting caught up in the same cycle of behaviours over and over again? Do you find it difficult to tolerate painful thoughts and emotions? Mindfulness can help you learn how to pay attention on purpose, change impulsive behaviour and habits, and help you stay in the present instead of living in the past or future.

  • Emotion Regulation

Do you struggle with emotions that feel out of control? Is it hard to feel positive emotions? Emotion regulation skills can help you identify your feelings, understand what causes emotions including emotions that feel like they come out of the blue, and give you skills to feel more in control.

Eric Fisher

Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC)

Eric is a Master’s Level Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with the Canadian Counselling & Psychotherapy Association. My Master’s degree is in Clinical Mental Health Counselling. With over 10 years of experience in the counselling field in both Canada and the US. Eric has worked in inpatient and outpatient settings which has given me much experience and learning.

As human beings, connection is paramount. Eric joins others in an empathic, non-judgemental, and approachable way. He often collaborates with those needing help with relationship concerns, trauma, addiction, anxiety, stress, and depression, to name a few. Eric sees therapy as requiring a holistic touch as there are many avenues to healing.

HIs goal is to be client-centred and eclectic with his approach to therapy. Using a wrench to hammer in a nail doesn’t often work! Through working together, he hopes you are able to open doors that have not yet been opened, close doors that may need closing, renovate rooms requiring a change, and discover blind spots on walls which were not seen before.
